March 27 1963 The Frances Hubbard Diaries

March 27, 1963
Wednesday, cooler, cloudy, and rain in am, 40’s.  Clearing and windy in pm. Cleaned up the house and wood house a little. Little Larry Van Allen, 2 yr old son of Donna Laraway, was missing and believed to have drowned in the Schoharie Creek.  Still searching for him.  Ella Mae called and wanted us to come down for the weekend.
Comment:  Another tragedy unfolding.  The creeks could be killers when in flood stage and were really dangerous beyond our comprehension.  Below is a picture of Wayne on the Gilboa Bridge while the Schoharie Creek was flooding.  Lots of kids were injured or killed in farming areas and I talk about some of the things in blogs on this site:
