Friday, 27 July, 1962, The Frances Hubbard Diaries

Friday, 27 July, 1962, The Frances Hubbard Diaries
Cloudy, cold, 42.  Ina Belle left in am for Earl's.  Girls and I went to camp at night.
Comment:  Earl's was about three miles away...hmmm..."Winter is coming".....Comment From Susan: Mom had two foster girls at this time, for a short while: Maxine Maxwell and Marjorie Coop, or Croop… the girls were cousins.  Sweet little things, around 7 and 8 years old.  Marjorie had appendicitis while with us.  She complained of a pain in her side for a few days – but nothing severe – come to find out it was appendicitis.  She was a tough little girl.  They both were from around Middleburgh way (SchoharieCounty).  The girls were there only a few months through the summer as I recall.  Dad got to drinking, and Mom, reluctantly, thought it was better no to keep the girls.  I have often thought of those little girls – how they ended up. Mom saw Marjorie several years later around Middleburgh, and spoke to her then.

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
