Tuesday, July 13, 1965, The Frances Hubbard Diaries

Tuesday, July 13, 1965
Beautiful day, 80.  I ironed, took girls to swim at West Conesville but wound up at Roberta's.  Wrote to Dougie.  We went to Grand Gorge at nite after feed and stopped at LaVerne's again.  Sorted out clothes and sweaters and took 2 boxes to Madalyn's. Burton Scutt and Max Decker here at nite to ask girls to sing Saturday at Nickersons's for Jolly Boys and a picnic at Roxbury.  Billie called in am
Comment:  Madalyn is Madalyn Blakesly of Lyle and Madalyn who lived about a mile away on Blakesly Road.  Their nephew, Rudy, married my dad's sister, Winifred.  The girls seem to be getting a tad famous for their singing.  When I was a boy, Nickerson's Rocks overlooking the Schoharie Creek in Gilboa off Stryker road, was where many of us risked our lives jumping and diving from the 30 feet or so high rocks into the Creek.
This was way before the campground was developed.  Arvilla and Ford Nickerson founded the campground.  Arvilla was my 2nd grad teacher and Ford invented a hydraulic gutter cleaner that I believe he sold to Jamesway Farm Equipment Company....

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
