April 1, 1963 The Frances Hubbard Diaries

April 1, 1963
Monday, cloudy and cool. Still in Jersey. I washed windows outside and did blinds on porch. Clifton raked the lawn. We went shopping for Ella Mae at Pompton Lakes toward night. Got her sheets, pillow case etc. Wrote to Marilyn in afternoon and Doug at night.
Comment:  Ella Mae could be considered my mother's step-mother after a fashion, because she was once married to Norman Van Tassell, the man Mom's mother Bessie married after her divorce from Mom's father, Clarence Barber, who then married Bessie's sister, Margaret, or Billie.  Kinda like "I'm My Own Grandpa" but not quite....  Apparently Ella Mae's condition is not that great because of the chores my folks are doing for her.  Here is how Mom and Dad might have look as they kinda gussied up for their weekend just outside "The City" (New York) in New Jersey.

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
