February 5, 1963 The Frances Hubbard Diaries

February 5, 1963
Mostly sunny 30.   David, Clifton and I went to Cobleskill to Mothers for dinner.  The ice was nearly gone from roads.  David's car had a broken spring.  I had a bad cold in my head.
Comment:  I think David broke the spring in his car by loading a big piece of concrete guard-rail post into the trunk to help him get up the hills when it was so icy the last couple of days.  I remember seeing the car with the guard rail in the trunk and it was squatting very low in the back.  Here is a picture of my mother's mother, Bessie Laraway Barber Van Tassell  as a young woman.  She is on the right.  Not sure why they are standing in what appears to be a hay-field.

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
