Thursday, 15 September, 1966, The Frances Hubbard Diaries
Foggy, rainy, clearing at night, 40's and 50's.  I sewed nearly all day.  The girls and I went to Jefferson after the meat and Sue and I packaged it and got it in the freezer.  Clifton home late.
Comment:  Big job done......it was a big deal when the times were good enough for us to get a refrigerator and a chest freezer.  Before that, we had to can and cure all the meats and vegetables.  I remember helping Dad "cure" hams with salt water in large earthenware tubs that we placed in the cellar.  He put a large stone in the tub on top of the meat to keep it under the salt water before he put the top on the tub......this is very like our first freezer......

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
