Monday, February 17, 1964. The Frances Hubbard Diaries

February 17, 1964.
Monday beautiful warm day 70's.  I washed in am and baked pumpkin pie.  Did some sewing.  Went to Marilyn's WMU at night.  Jean Romans mission to Okinawa had the program.  10 below in Oneonta, NY.
Comment:  Quite busy, bet the pie was great, I can almost taste it now..I spent 18 months on Okinawa in 1958 and 1959...about 300 natives a year were getting killed in the mountains picking up brass from the still-live munitions from all the shelling during our attack on the island.  People were also living and dying in the streets.  I saw several corpses. The Okinawans hated out guts...now it's  a major tourist attraction....and they still hate our guts.....http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/15/world/asia/okinawan-views-on-us-military-presence-are-nuanced.html

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
