Saturday, 30 July, 1966, The Frances Hubbard Diaries
Partly cloudy and cool. Called Marilyn in am. David went to Conn. Clifton and Doug worked at haying in pm. We went to LaVerne's at night for a short time.
Comment: Sounds like a good day for "haying"...Amazing that I can still remember when we did it this way....."As I rode down in the haystack and my Father held the horses back"....I also remember when our horses ran away after a load of hay tipped over on the rocks coming out of the "new seeding" at the foot of the mountain. A Campanella boy of about 18 was working for us and he jumped up on the team as it ran up and down the road and stopped it. Dad was mad because he could've gotten badly hurt...I think the boy was driving the team when it ran away...
