Thursday, January 14, 1965 The Frances Hubbard Diaries

January 14, 1965
Thursday, cold, 7, windy with flurries.  I wrote to Marilyn and Ella Mae.  Did some ironing.  Very cold and windy, 10 below at night.  Went to Marion Bailey's to Missionary Meeting after prayer meeting was canceled because of cold.
Comment: Windy and 10 below and the drafts through that old house would be cutting and require several layers to stay warm. We would also sometimes use quart canning jars filled with hot water wrapped in newspapers to keep us warm in bed. That would work until in the water got cold....here is a picture of a more specialized pottery bed, and foot warmer.....

You're always young in your mind it is said, No matter the face in the mirror, That you see with surprise then say to yourself, "What is that old man doing here?"
